![]() "It's a good technology, but not a panacea," Webber said. Most organizations never do find and format all the data needed to create complete golden records, but they can get "80% or 90%" there, he said. Sometimes, whomever owns a critical customer data set in an organization has to be convinced to give it up, Webber has found among his clients. Just finding the customer data within a company needed to set up a CDP can require some sleuthing. There's a lot of work that needs to be done in organizations to align their data. It's a good technology, but not a panacea. What Adobe customers and those using competing CDPs need to understand before buying into the data tools is how much back-end data-wrangling it requires to use effectively. Implementation will require data housecleaningĬDPs like the Adobe's can potentially achieve the results and functions the vendors promise, said IDC analyst Alan Webber. Users can control where data flows according to company policies or as privacy regulations dictate. "This is putting a marketer's layer on top of that."Īlso included are data governance tools that manage protected customer data. "With Adobe Experience Platform, it's likely the users are more technical," Caruso said. New tools, however, make using the data collected in the Adobe customer data platform (CDP) easier by enabling marketing staff to view it in different possible marketing-specific scenarios, without the assistance of IT or developers. Some of the features were already present in Adobe Experience Platform. Collecting all the data in one place and dashboarding it in the real-time CDP enables immediate, more detailed personalization of marketing campaigns and content pushes to individual customers. This book, along with the massively poor operational characteristics of GoLive has forced me to go back to Dreamweaver.Adobe real-time CDP collects data from a user's disparate sources, such as adware, marketing campaigns, social media and customer service, into a single record, said Nina Caruso, Adobe product marketing manager. It is very apparent that is was written by one who is somewhat familier with Adobe GoLive for those that are somewhat familier with GoLive. The book is not one for those that are at the lower levels of web creating. The URLs mentioned in the book are very close to all being non-exitant. The 'notes', 'cross references', 'tips', etc., have one going all over the book and never finding anything that completely describes whatever it is one is trying to do. It can take 10 or more pages to get through a procedure. Most references to items in pull-down menus are for the Mac, which do not exist in Windows. Almost all the figures in the book are from Mac systems while the text is referencing Windows. ![]() The text meanders around a subject constantly without completely explaining how to do whatever the subject is. At least 20% of the book is personal comments that have little to do with the subject at hand. I found this book to be very time wasting. Except, why would she leave the advanced site planning tools for the very end, even before WebDav & ASP? Really, just minor quibbles. Most of the following chapters are good to very good. 2 starts where it should for GoLive, with an overview of the program's great site management capabilities, then goes on to outline the other program features. If I were only given the first chapter to read I would not have bought this book because Shadovitz gives more of a ra-ra sales pitch for GoLive than an overview.įortunately, the book quickly improves. Also, in adopting a chatty, informal style Shadovitz sometime slips into wordiness (read repeating herself). Not a bad thing, I'll admit, but I would have liked to have seen more on customizing the program. In attempting to be all things to all people, this book focues more on beginning explanations than advanced features. Like all of IDG's Bible series its strength is also its weakness. GoLive 5 Bible is as good as any book on the subject and better than some. All in all a competent reference suitable for a web newcomer as well as an old hand coder who finally has seen the error of his ways (wince).
